Junior Infants 1 – Marie
Junior Infants 1 have settled in so well into school life. They have been in school now 9 weeks and are making huge progress in all areas!
We have been learning about Autumn and we went on a lovely nature walk around the school and surrounding area. We saw lots of different coloured leaves on the trees and on the ground. The children gathered some up for our Autumn display in the classroom. We saw some acorns and berries and we got to pick some of the ripe blackberries!
In science Junior Infants 1 are learning about our 5 senses. For a tasting experiment the children discussed and got to taste foods that were sour, bitter, sweet and salty. As you can see from their faces they weren’t big fans of the sour lemon and much preferred the sweet chocolate. It was lots of fun!
In English and Drama we were reading and learning about the story, “Handa’s Surprise”. The children loved reading the story and especially loved acting out as the different animals secretly taking the fruit from Handa’s basket! Thankfully the goat knocked into a tree and filled the basket with tangerines for Handa’s friend, Akeyo!
Maths week 2018 – The children were invited down to the hall on Monday where 8 different stations were said up. The three Junior Infant classes were mixed and split up into 8 groups. There were children from 6th class and also lots of parents in to help at each station. The children loved it! Thank you to all who came in to help out!
